Alec Peterson,
Staff Scientist
Alec Peterson is
a Staff Scientist at CenterGate® where he manages the
development of key products such as UltraDNS and proprietary network
architecture projects. A specialist in IP infrastructure, Alec is active
in many aspects of Internet management. He currently serves as Chairman
of the Advisory Council of ARIN (American Registery for Internet Numbers),
and as a speaker at various industry conferences, including NANOG and
ISPF I.
Before joining CenterGate,
Alec was the Manager of IP Backbone Planning for RCN, a national Internet
company that acquired Erols in January 1998. With ongoing responsibility
for designing RCN's IP network and insuring scalability for the company's
rapid growth, Alec had provided similar oversight for the Erols network
which he had managed since 1996, ensuring that the infrastructure could
continue to support the explosive increase in Erols' userbase.
From 1993 to 1996,
Alec was Network Administrator and Architect for Panix, the most significant
BBS and Internet company based in New York during that period where
he also managed both the news and user access systems.
Alec is a recent
graduate of Johns Hopkins University, majoring in Computer Science.
At Hopkins, he was he was awarded the Outstanding Project/Research Award.
This award, given annually by the Computer Science department, was earned
for his involvement in a research project on distributing servers geographically
to help improve end user throughput as well as reduce load on the Internet.
He is looking forward
to moving to Denver, Colorado and enjoying life and the nearby mountains.
