Daniel Roberts,
Technology Counsel / Staff Engineer
Dan Roberts serves
as Technology Counsel and Staff Engineer for CenterGate®,
bringing in a synergistic skill set of computer software development,
the discipline of legal mind, and background with US and Foreign Patents
and Trademarks.
Along with handling
the protection of CenterGate's Intellectual Property, he is also an
integral part of CenterGate's development team. Proving that indeed
some attorneys use a CD-Rom drive for more than a retractable cup holder,
Dan has been involved with computer hardware and software since his
4th grade introduction to punch cards for FORTRAN. An accomplished programmer
in Basic, Visual Basic, C, C++, and FORTRAN, Dan has authored a number
of applications including the recently completed Global "Arc-Set"
and DSS positioning program used by Gourmet
Entertaining
to preset tools for installing home satellite dishes and pinpointing
where an 18" dish can be put based on the sun shadows.
Dan holds a Juris
Doctor from the University of Denver College of Law as well as Masters
in Computer Information Systems from Denver University's University
College. He is licensed to practice Law in the State of Colorado, and
represented the State in several appellate level cases as well as serving
on the in-house counsel team in Colorado's suit against Big Tobacco.
Prior to joining CenterGate, Dan served as general counsel to the Colorado
software developers Evergreen New Media, and the San Diego Internet
Website development company Vidya.
Taking and passing the U.S. Patent Bar is on the horizon.
Dan has been published
in a variety of forums, not the least of which regard technology. Of
note in this area are his works, The Internet, a Legal Frontier: Much
